The Loop, Manchester’s fibre network powered by Gamma, has connected to one of Manchester’s largest datacentres, which is 20,000 sq ft of technical space located on Michigan Avenue in Trafford Park and owned by cloud services and colocation provider, DataCentred.
This follows a six figure investment by The Loop to extend the fibre optic network a further kilometre in Trafford Park to enable The Loop to now serve a total of a 16 datacentres in the Manchester area.
The Loop now runs its fibre optic network more than 150km around the streets of Manchester, linking the main commercial districts such as the city centre, the Science Park and MediaCityUK. It also connects to some key buildings including Manchester Central Library, The Sharp Project, Soapworks and The Space Project.
Dr Mike Kelly, CEO of DataCentred said: “We’re delighted to have The Loop available to existing and prospective customers in our facility. The ready availability of dark fibre for high bandwidth, low-latency connectivity from our data centre, coupled with the extensive reach that The Loop provides to deliver this to Manchester-based organisations, makes a very compelling and cost-effective combination. We’ve been proud to invest in Manchester and contribute to the digital economy here, and we hope this winning combination of data centre services and connectivity drives further inward investment and innovation.”
Ashley Griffith, Managing Director of The Loop said: “DataCentred’s facility is one of the most significant in Manchester, so it makes good commercial sense to connect to it. They’re one of the UK’s best value providers of cloud services and colocation, which fits perfectly with our own ethos of offering competitive pricing with ease of doing business.. We’re continuing to expand our footprint in Manchester with this further investment in civils and fibre optic cabling. This is now the 16th datacentre we have connected to in Manchester and we are building a solid customer base from the private and public sector. We remain committed to providing a competitive fibre infrastructure alternative for the local market. Manchester’s business community can now benefit from ultra-fast connectivity at even more sites across the city.”
