Introducing Point to Point

Introducing Point to Point for Ethernet and Converged Private Networks

We have now launched an additional option to our Ethernet product set – Point to Point is a service that connects two sites together to form an extension of a local area network (LAN) rather than providing internet access. Each Ethernet connection will route to the nearest carrier POP or exchange before routing over the carrier’s network to the other site thus connecting the two together.

Cloud Compute from Gamma is great for organisations looking to cut costs

Point to Point is available as a managed or wires only option and it offers increased resiliency and business continuity as part of a disaster recovery plan or for high speed data replication between two key customer sites.

Typically, Point to Point service is used to achieve resiliency, data replication and business continuity in one of the following ways;

  • Connect a HQ to a data centre for either disaster recovery, data replication and resiliency purposes
  • Connect two sites for the fast and secure transfer of data/voice between two sites as a dedicated link without traversing the unsecure internet
  • Use this path to backup an existing Ethernet link between two locations
  • Connect two customer datacentres together (as a primary or a backup route)
  • Connect two HQ locations together to create an HQ “campus” environment

If you’d like to find out more about our Point to Point service, please contact your CDM.

New functionality for our Inbound platform

New aliasing and shared values functionality

We have introduced two new features to our Inbound product set.

  • Aliasing – eliminates the need to create two or more identical call plans when all that is required is a new callable Inbound number
  • Shared values – enables you to create global schedules to be shared across many call plans. This saves you from having to make the same date/time or day/time change in many places.

Aliasing saves you from creating two or more identical call plans when all you need is a new callable inbound number. A typical use case would be to share the behaviour of one inbound number with another inbound number.

Using the aliasing feature, the call plan can be updated once and it will be reflected across all the aliases. Aliasing gives you the flexibility to make changes from either the primary number or aliased number perspective.

Aliasing is available free of charge on Contact Point, Path and Pro and has already been added to your account, if you are an existing Inbound customer.

Shared values

You can create global schedules to be shared across many call plans which saves having to make the same date/time or day/time change in many places. Schedules can be used within date/time or day/time nodes. The shared values management page can be used to configure these schedules and activate them across call plans. This features is used in conjunction with the day/time and date/time functions.

Date/time routing

You can set up different call routing for different date ranges and different time ranges within those specified dates for example, Christmas day, Easter Sunday.

Day/time routing

You can set up different call routing for each day of the week (Monday to Sunday) and at specific time intervals.

Shared values is also available free of charge on Contact Path and Pro and has already been added to all existing Contact Path and Pro accounts.

If you’d like to find out more, please contact your CDM.

Do you need to upgrade your browser?

Gamma Portals browser upgrade

Please don’t forget that we are requesting any portal users who are using older, unsupported browser versions to upgrade their browser as soon as possible to ensure access to our Inbound portal, SIP Trunk Call Manager portal or the Horizon portal is not affected.

We have now added a notice to the portals prompting users to upgrade (if they are using an older browser) with links to assist them.  They can choose to ignore this and continue with their work, but they will be prompted again a few days later.

From July, we will block access from older browsers altogether, so it is important that all users have upgraded by then.

We are aware that not all users will have permission to do this and in these cases customers should be giving their IT administrators as much notice as possible so they can plan the upgrade.

For any support on this matter, please call your CDM on 0333 014 0333, option 4.

EU GDPR – everyone’s talking about it

EU GDPR – what is it?

The GDPR will apply in the UK from 25 May 2018. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a regulation intended to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU). The government has confirmed that the UK’s decision to leave the EU will not affect the commencement of the GDPR.

It will affect how an individual’s data can be stored, used and will have an impact on businesses who use such data to market and deliver their services. If you rely on consent, it must be line with the new legislation in order to continue to be used compliantly.

We recently filmed a roundtable discussion on the topic to see what questions our customers had about the upcoming change in regulation. Find out what Thrifty Van and Car Rental had to say when we got them together with compliance experts, Semafone to discuss the impact expected on the UK business market.

In the UK we are currently subject to the Data Protection Act 1998, but this is due to be superseded by the new the legislation – GDPR. It will introduce significantly harsher fines for non-compliance and breaches, and is designed to give individuals more power over how their data is used.

Find out more about the new regulation and to ensure you remain compliant by watching our short video.
