Press release 29/03/2011
Gamma, the next generation full network operator and one of the
UK's largest providers of telecoms services and related
applications, has been awarded CarbonNeutral® company certification
by reducing its carbon footprint to net zero.
The move to becoming a CarbonNeutral company builds on
the success of the network operators' Carbon Neutral Minutes
product which has been enabling channel partners to provide carbon
offset telephony since it was introduced in 2009. Being a
CarbonNeutral company means that carbon emissions from all of
Gamma's services have now been measured and reduced through
verified carbon offsets and internal reduction initiatives, and
channel partners selling Gamma's services can now offer the
credibility that organisations are looking for when seeking to
reduce emissions associated with their supply chain.
To achieve CarbonNeutral company certification, Gamma works with
The CarbonNeutral Company, a world leading provider of carbon
reduction solutions, to measure and reduce its carbon footprint to
net zero. The network operator is independently assessed for its
carbon footprint, taking into account all utility usage, business
travel and waste across each site, as well as the electricity
consumed by the IP network which carries all of Gamma's
applications and services. The resultant carbon footprint is then
reduced internally and offset by purchasing carbon credits where
every tonne of CO2 emitted by Gamma is matched by an equivalent
amount saved by a project somewhere else in the world. Gamma has
selected renewable energy projects in Sri Lanka and Turkey.
Bob Falconer, CEO at Gamma said, "We are extremely proud to have
achieved CarbonNeutral company certification; this fits comfortably
with our ethos as a responsible, high quality, business. By taking
a net zero position on emissions, we have set a new standard for
our sector, above and beyond our competitors. As more private and
public organisations introduce their own supply chain carbon
targets we look to give our partners yet another edge in their
markets."
Jeff Highfield, MD at Reefstream, commented, "We've been
successfully selling Carbon Neutral Minutes for over a year now and
we're keen to exploit the new opportunities that this level of
certification gives us. We're being asked more and more about our
green credentials and this will really add weight to our proposals.
Well done Gamma for staying ahead of the game!"
Rebecca Fay, Marketing Director, The CarbonNeutral Company said,
"By measuring and reducing all of Gamma's carbon emissions, the
company has demonstrated a real commitment to tackling climate
change. This not only positions Gamma as an industry leader but
presents its channel partners with a clear and credible
environmental option."
