The Environment
and CarbonNeutral

We made a commitment to reducing carbon footprint across our network back in 2006, through investment in the efficiency of our IP based network and other assets as well as an active offset management programme. This means Gamma is a fully certified CarbonNeutral® company making us one of the few communications providers in the UK to have a net zero carbon footprint.

Become greener

Working with Gamma as an environmentally pro-active company means that:

  • Carbon emissions from our entire range of applications and services are now offset to net zero
  • Your profile will be boosted and it could help you to win more business
  • Our services can help organisations in the public sector where carbon reduction is a key objective
  • We're an environmentally friendly provider

By choosing us, you can demonstrate green credentials. The Government has made energy consumption of its ICT systems carbon neutral - and extending this to the lifetime of systems (from manufacture to disposal) by 2020.

With any application or service we provide, you can have a solution that not only helps the environment but also makes good business sense.

Gamma and the environment

As a next-generation full network operator and one of the UK's largest providers of communications services and related applications, we recognise the need to set an example to the industry. We take our responsibilities very seriously and are totally committed to being both a green and efficient operator.

How is Gamma CarbonNeutral?

Certified carbon neutral company logo

We follow these three steps to become CarbonNeutral:

  • Measured every year
    Greenstone carbon management logo

The company is independently assessed by Greenstone for its carbon footprint, taking into account all utility usage, business travel and waste across each site, as well as the electricity consumed by the network.

  • Reducing our emissions

To be a certified CarbonNeutral® company, we need to demonstrate that we have worked to reduce our emissions. We take steps to improve energy efficiency and to reduce emissions through investment in our soft-switch network (which replaces a power-hungry hardware infrastructure) and we also promote recycling of waste, a ride to work scheme and car sharing as well as encourage our staff to make conference calls instead of travelling by car to business meetings.

  • Offsetting emissions and investing

Each year, we offset our remaining net emissions by investing in voluntary emissions reduction projects. So, for every 1 tonne of net CO2 emissions that Gamma emits, we're reducing 1 tonne of CO2 somewhere else in the world.
